RIP Barred Rock Chick
We lost another one. I think it might have been a raccoon. I really can't tell. They had gotten out of their coop this morning, and only two chicks were to be found. According to my books, a missing chicken is a dead chicken. She was a spunky little creature.

VIDEOS
Evangeline really loves Irene. Irene can't get enough of Evangeline. Evangeline really likes making Irene crack up, so we tried to record it and got this.
Evangeline is good at answering questions.

RIP Annie
Annie had been ailing for a while, and I knew this was going to happen, but I had some hope. She made a brief recovery last week, but never really started eating again. She died sometime last night, and I found her laying dead in the coop this morning. The other chickens were a bit freaked out by it. Evangeline helped me dig her grave, and we placed her into the earth, said a prayer, sang the Nunc Dimittis and covered her up, all the while covering her grave with myrrh. We look forward to seeing her again at the resurrection of all flesh. She was a good gentle bird, but an old bird. She rests beside the deceased Dominique in the backyard of 1315 E Washington St.

Reme Time
Evangeline does not think that "Reme" needs personal space. Perhaps this is true. Yesterday Kyle found Evangeline helping Irene out with a long-overdue manicure (with real nail clippers, but Evangeline still doesn't get how they work, so no real cutting) while she was napping. It did wake her up, but apparently she loved it. And Kyle got her back to sleep. I wonder if more stuff like this goes on than we know.

| Evangeline typically crowding Reme. She didn't really need all that space to herself, or that new teether she got in her Easter basket. Or that leg, really. |

Grandparentless
Well, today was a sad day. The last of the grandparents left, and here we are. We wish all four grandparents could stay all the time (and Aunt Jessie, too, but since she just turned 26, we'll let her off the hook). We'd just have to add on an extra room or two, talk them into quitting their jobs, selling their houses, moving...well, we had a great time while they were here.
