First Day of Kindergarten and Denouement

We all got up real early this morning to take Evangeline to her first day of Kindergarten. Lunch packed, breakfast eaten, hair done, school clothes on, in the car, pick up...good thing that's over! Except I keep realizing that we get to do it tomorrow! And the day after! And the day after! Etc!

After her day, we went back for the presentation of the Schultüten, which was fantastisch.

Evangeline's account of her school day was very newsy and positive except that bit where Herr Helgesen made her draw a picture of herself that was not a stick figure. Luckily Frau Crawford is abundantly nice and there are plenty of Sophias in her class to keep her company. And apparently Asher cried a lot.

We asked her on the way home if sometime during the day she wished she was at home instead of school. Long pause. "No...sorry." We told her that's just we were hoping she'd say.

The most schoolgirl Schoolgirl you ever did see.

This kid behind Evangeline was not too happy about his first day of school. Poor kid. We noticed all the crying kids were boys. But no kids were crying when we went back at the end of the day, so things must have gotten better.
Evangeline already embarrassed and trying to seem busy with other stuff.
Amidst some Sophias.
That's a lot of kindergarteners right there.
Shultüte success!
Evangeline had the willpower to not open it until she got home, and then not even until Irene got home so she could open it with her. Sweet sister moment (until Irene sneak ate both packs of gummi bears and lots of tears followed).

Irene Mietzner Was a Bullfrog

Irene started her senior year of preschool today. Gone are the carefree days of Leapfrogs; she is a Bullfrog now and it's time to get down to business (but really she did say the Bullfrogs seem to do the same things she did in Leapfrogs but just a little harder like writing her name on the first day). So, here's the first day photo shoot...

Look how small and neat! On the first day! (Pen for scale)
Mietzner sisters all delivered Irene to her first day.
Irene's first H&M ad.
This kid is ready.
Evangeline doesn't start until next week and was feeling a little nostalgic for good ol' school.
In case you didn't catch these...

Flower girls

We found a nice field of flowers in Kenai. Evangeline and I had been killing some time in town, took a few pictures, and so Grandma and Pop Pop decided to try to get a few with all three, with the promise of dinner out at McDonalds after. Agnes wasn't lovin' it. We also need to give them the "fig leaf" lesson.

See if you can resist saying Poppies...

When we got home, they found something more fun than pictures with Poppies...

July visit

Thanks Aunt Jessie for sending me some picture because I somehow managed to not take a single one during your visit!

Grandma, Baba, Aunt Jessie and Uncle Kyle Shepherd came for a lovely if too short visit. I think we managed to do enough stuff, and had a great time just hanging out, too. Next visit hopefully we'll have a couch...and also the girls are excited to show their new little cousin Alaska and know just the pink life jacket that she'll wear on the lake. And a pink fishing pole for when they take her fishing.

The dads caught some halibut.
Some hiking was done.
This was a dads all-day hike..moms went to anchorage museum.

Milestones

"Where do I begin after 3 months of not posting anything?"...is the question I asked myself 20 minutes ago. So I thought I'd start with some so-called milestones and fill in some other great visits and general wonderfulness in the next few installments. (Provided the next one is also not three months from now, in which case I don't even know what I'll do)

Agnes turned ONE

The girls finally got to ride horses.

Agnes learned to drum.
Irene jumped higher than a mountain.

Agnes learned to walk and haul wood.
There has been a lot of this sort of stuff...not any kind of milestone but look at Agnes in that tutu suit!
Evangeline lost her first tooth yesterday.
First conga line with dad.
Rare pic with mom.
